Argentina’s Superintendency of Insurance reported on Superintendent Guillermo Plate’s role, as President of the Association of Latin American Insurance Supervisors (ASSAL), in convening and chairing a High-Level Conference on Insurance Supervision for Latin America and the Caribbean in Costa Rica, followed by ASSAL’s XXXVII Annual Assembly. The 15–16 April conference brought together 70 participants from regional insurance supervisory authorities and international bodies including the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Organised by ASSAL with the Financial Stability Institute (FSI) and the IAIS and sponsored by Costa Rica’s Superintendency of Insurance (SUGESE), the agenda covered current and emerging risks for insurers including inflation, financial-market volatility and climate change, as well as protection gaps for natural catastrophes and supervisory challenges linked to insurers’ use of artificial intelligence. Plate moderated a session on regional priorities where the ASSAL board outlined its main workstreams, progress to date and near-term milestones, and gathered initial feedback from supervisors to help identify and prioritise areas for the coming years. At the 17 April Annual Assembly, ASSAL’s board, chaired by Plate, presented its first-year management report alongside the 2025 financial statements and annual report, and ratified the NAIC’s incorporation as an associate member. ASSAL currently brings together the heads of insurance supervision authorities from 22 Ibero-American countries.
