The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten announced that the Caribbean guilder has officially become legal tender in Curaçao and Sint Maarten, marked by a ceremonial first exchange of Netherlands Antillean guilders for Caribbean guilders at the central bank’s offices in both countries. The new currency will enter circulation through commercial banks and will co circulate with the Netherlands Antillean guilder for three months. The Netherlands Antillean guilder will cease to be legal tender on 1 July 2025. Account holders can exchange Netherlands Antillean guilders for Caribbean guilders at their banks starting 1 April, while individuals without bank accounts can exchange cash at the central bank’s offices. Banks are also preparing changes to cashless payment systems, including switching the currency code from ANG to XCG.
