The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published a scam alert after receiving reports relating to fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams, and directed the public to relevant press releases issued by affected banks, which are linked from the HKMA website. The alert covers The Bank of East Asia, Limited; Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited; Chong Hing Bank Limited; and OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) Limited in relation to fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens, as well as Ant Bank (Hong Kong) Limited in relation to a fraudulent website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS messages or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to the scams is advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force.
