The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland has launched a public charting tool that provides near-real-time indicators of business conditions in the Federal Reserve’s Fourth District, based on its Survey of Regional Conditions and Expectations (SORCE). The SORCE indexes, used for more than a decade to inform the Cleveland Fed’s Beige Book input and monetary policy work, capture business reports on demand, prices, costs, employment, wages, capital expenditures, and expectations. Data are collected every six weeks and the indexes are published roughly three weeks later, shortly after the Beige Book. The tool currently covers 2014–2024 and the next update is scheduled for March 5; the survey draws on business and community leaders across Ohio, western Pennsylvania, eastern Kentucky, and the northern tip of West Virginia.
