The Central Bank of Chile released preliminary September data for the Monthly Economic Activity Index (Imacec), showing a 3.2% increase versus the same month a year earlier. The seasonally adjusted series rose 0.5% from the previous month and 2.5% over twelve months, with September having two more working days than September 2024. The annual Imacec outcome was mainly driven by services and trade, partly offset by lower mining production, while the month-on-month increase in the seasonally adjusted Imacec was driven by mining and services. Non-mining Imacec grew 3.8% year-on-year and increased 0.2% in seasonally adjusted terms versus the prior month. By activity, goods production rose 0.5% year-on-year as manufacturing, particularly food processing, offset declines in mining (-2.2%, linked to lower copper ore extraction) and other goods (-0.3%, reflecting lower value added in electric power generation). Trade increased 10.8% year-on-year and 1.0% month-on-month (seasonally adjusted), supported by wholesale (machinery and equipment and foods), automotive (vehicle sales and maintenance), and retail (including online platforms). Services expanded 3.3% year-on-year and 0.5% month-on-month (seasonally adjusted), led by business, personal, and transportation services. Preliminary third-quarter GDP results, along with revisions to the first and second quarters, are scheduled for release on Tuesday, 18 November.
