The National Bank of Moldova published remarks by Governor Anca Dragu from the “Never Again – Lessons of History” event in Bucharest held for the International Day of Commemoration of the Victims of the Holocaust, where she framed Holocaust remembrance as an ongoing matter of collective responsibility and societal values. During the event, she presented Holocaust survivor and author Otto Fülöp with the “Queen Maria” commemorative coin as a gesture of respect and recognition. The programme centred on the testimony of a boy deported to Auschwitz, as recounted in Fülöp’s book “I am B-14849”, launched at the event, and included a dialogue with Fülöp on testimony, memory and responsibility. The organisers brought together representatives of the diplomatic, academic and cultural communities and around 750 high school students; the National Bank of Moldova also linked the commemoration to its practice of issuing commemorative coins dedicated to major historical events and personalities.
