The Central Bank of Afghanistan held a meeting with the Association of Electronic Money and Payment Institutions of Afghanistan to coordinate expansion of electronic payments and the shift of revenue collection onto digital systems, in line with a decree on digital revenue collection and a strategy approved by the Prime Minister’s Office. The discussion covered the responsibilities of relevant agencies under the strategy, the role of electronic money and payment institutions (EMPIs) in moving from cash to electronic transactions, and practical issues around digital revenue collection, including challenges and potential solutions. The central bank described the strategy as supporting financial-system modernisation, improved transparency and accountability, and broader access to faster financial services in areas without bank branches. An action plan has been developed based on the strategy, with further steps to be taken in coordination with EMPIs, and officials highlighted the need for public awareness programmes to support implementation.
