In an article on its preparations for International Workers' Day, the Central Bank of Cuba said it is mobilising staff for the 1 May celebrations and, during the event, identified the upcoming fifth-round GAFILAT evaluation as a key next challenge for the institution. The bank's president, Juana Lilia Delgado Portal, said the goal is to demonstrate that Cuba has a defined strategy to address money laundering, terrorist financing and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The event was attended by Delgado Portal, Vice President Alberto QuiƱones Betancourt and members of the management council, with work groups presenting initiatives, posters and slogans ahead of the national May Day rallies. Delgado Portal described the gathering as recognition of banking staff and said that, in her view, a poor outcome in the GAFILAT review could be used by the United States government to portray Cuba as a country that sponsors such activities.
