The Financial Conduct Authority published an enforcement update on a coordinated “global week of action against unlawful finfluencers”, bringing together nine regulators to curb illegal financial promotions on social media. The week of action, which began on 2 June 2025, involved regulators from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. In the UK, the FCA made three arrests with support from the City of London Police, authorised criminal proceedings against three individuals, invited four finfluencers for interview, sent seven cease and desist letters and issued 50 warning alerts. The warning alerts are expected to trigger over 650 takedown requests to social media platforms and target more than 50 websites operated by unauthorised finfluencers; the FCA said it is unable to name those arrested, invited for interview or subject to authorised criminal proceedings.
