The Japan Financial Services Agency has opened recruitment for a small number of qualified lawyers to work on planning and drafting regulatory frameworks covering digital decentralized finance, including stablecoins, and the international business conducted by domestic financial institutions. The role includes preparing draft laws and regulations and materials for deliberations by the Diet, handling examinations by the Cabinet Legislation Bureau and negotiations with relevant ministries and agencies, responding to inquiries on legal and regulatory interpretation, and researching financial systems and their operation in Japan and abroad, including related economic and financial conditions. Candidates must be licensed lawyers with broad knowledge of, interest in, or work experience related to financial laws and regulations, with high English proficiency preferred. Hiring is planned as a full-time national civil servant under the Act on Special Provisions for Recruitment and Salary of Fixed-term Employees in General Positions, with an employment period in principle of around one to two years. Applications must arrive by Tuesday, 7 April 2026, with selection proceeding from document screening to an interview for shortlisted candidates.
