Malaysia's Ministry of Finance set higher unsubsidized retail fuel prices for Sept. 24-30 under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism. RON97 and RON95 will each rise by MYR 0.20 per liter, while diesel will increase by MYR 0.15 per liter. The resulting unsubsidized prices include MYR 4.57 per liter for RON95 and MYR 5.42 for diesel. Eligible BUDI MADANI recipients will continue to pay MYR 1.99 per liter for RON95 and MYR 2.10 for diesel, subject to monthly eligibility limits. These prices represent government subsidies of MYR 2.58 per liter, or 56% of the unsubsidized RON95 price, and MYR 3.32 per liter, or 61% of the unsubsidized diesel price. The increases reflect continued tightness in refined petroleum markets caused by disrupted flows through the Strait of Hormuz, reduced refinery capacity and fuel export restrictions. Middle East diesel exports fell by more than 50% from March to August 2026, while supertanker charter rates on some routes from the region reached about USD 1 million a day.
