The Central Bank of the Solomon Islands (CBSI) has launched a new circulating 1-dollar coin featuring an effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, with the Minister of Finance and Treasury declaring the coin legal tender at the unveiling. The new coin can now be used for payments for goods and services in Solomon Islands. The coin keeps the same size and shape as the previous 1-dollar coin and retains the Nguzu Nguzu motif on the reverse. The obverse carries the new King Charles III effigy designed by Daniel Thorne, described as the first Solomon Islands coin to honour his reign, and the launch referenced CBSI’s supplier, the Royal Australian Mint Ltd. Distribution will be through commercial banks and their branches or agents, alongside CBSI awareness campaigns to explain the coin’s design and significance.
