The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA), through its Northern Zone office, used a public event in Arusha marking Sickle Cell Patients Day to promote health insurance and provide an operational update on implementation of the newly passed Universal Health Insurance Act. TIRA indicated it has begun registering health facilities that will participate in the Universal Health Insurance for All system. At the event at Mount Meru Hospital on 10 September 2025, TIRA’s Northern Zone insurance officer highlighted health insurance as a tool to help households avoid high treatment costs and access more reliable care. TIRA also informed attendees that Mount Meru Hospital has already been formally registered by the authority, enabling the facility to provide services under the health insurance system.
