The Financial and Consumer Services Commission of New Brunswick announced a partnership with Women’s Equality to raise awareness of the realities facing aging women that can increase the risk of financial exploitation, marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Seniors Month. The initiative includes the Commission’s second annual Walk for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Fredericton and Saint John and a free public webinar focused on women, aging, and financial abuse. In Fredericton, opening remarks for the walk are scheduled for June 5, 2025 at 11:15 am at the Fredericton Public Library (River Reading Room), with the walk ending at the Legislative Assembly at approximately 12:00 pm. Participants are expected to include the Minister responsible for Seniors and for Women’s Equality, Dr. Lyne Chantal Boudreau, and the Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, René Legacy, alongside government staff and representatives from the New Brunswick Seniors Advocate Office and the Alzheimer’s Society. A webinar titled "Money as We Age: Women and Financial Exploitation" is scheduled for June 10 and will cover the intersection of gender, age, and financial abuse and outline strategies to help women protect their financial well-being as they age.
