Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Funds (SBS) reminded the public that its SOAT/CAT and Vehicle Insurance Report is available free of charge, positioning it as a practical tool for year-end travel and for people considering buying or selling a used vehicle. By entering a vehicle’s licence plate number, users can access information on vehicle insurance policies and SOAT (mandatory traffic accident insurance) or CAT (traffic accident certificate) coverage for private and public vehicles and motorcycles. The report shows SOAT/CAT certificates or vehicle insurance policies taken out over the past five years, the vehicle’s recorded claims history, the issuing insurer or AFOCAT, policy or certificate number, and coverage validity, alongside other relevant information. SBS also reiterated that, under the General Transport and Land Traffic Law (Law No. 27181), every vehicle circulating in Peru must have a valid SOAT or CAT covering occupants and third parties for injury or death resulting from traffic accidents.
