The National Bank of Moldova published remarks by Governor Anca Dragu delivered at an event marking the 34th anniversary of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) and Economist Day, highlighting Moldova’s imminent operational participation in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and the central bank’s ongoing focus on financial sector modernisation. Speaking at the International Scientific Conference “Competitiveness and innovation in the knowledge economy”, which brought together researchers and academics from more than 12 countries, Dragu stated that Moldova would become an operational part of SEPA in a few days. She described this as opening access to a market of more than 500 million European citizens and as bringing faster, safer and significantly cheaper transfers for people and companies. The speech also pointed to continued work to promote the digitalisation of financial services and capital market development, alongside joint National Bank of Moldova and ASEM financial education initiatives, and noted that the two institutions confirmed their cooperation through a partnership agreement focused on financial education and the professional training of future economists.
