Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance published a briefing on Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis’ participation in Eurogroup and Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meetings in Brussels, alongside an extraordinary teleconference of G7 finance ministers. The ministry expects the escalation of tensions in the Middle East to dominate Eurogroup discussions, including potential impacts on energy prices and inflation and the resilience of European economies amid increased international uncertainty. ECOFIN is scheduled to focus on a package of measures to complete and strengthen supervision of financial markets under the European Savings and Investments Union (SIU) strategy, aimed at deepening the single market for capital, channelling European savings into productive investment and broadening financing sources for the European economy. The agenda also includes the economic and financial impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and continued EU financial support, as well as preparatory discussions for upcoming meetings of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors and the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Deputy Minister Thanos Petralias will also be in Brussels to represent Greece at the Eurogroup meetings, and ECOFIN is set to meet on 10 March 2026.
