The Central Bank of Luxembourg published results from its consumer confidence survey showing a very strong rebound in May 2025, with households markedly improving their outlook for their own financial situation and, even more, for Luxembourg’s general economic situation. Intentions to make major purchases also rose notably. The overall consumer confidence indicator increased to -7 in May from -16 in April. All components improved except households’ assessment of their past financial situation, which edged down to -6 from -5; expectations for the general economic situation improved to -12 from -33, expectations for households’ future financial situation rose to 0 from -5, and major purchase intentions improved to -10 from -21. The indicator is the arithmetic average of four seasonally adjusted components measured as the balance between weighted shares of consumers expecting improvement versus deterioration.
