The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced that Corey Klemmer will step down as Policy Director, a role she has held since May 2024 after joining the agency in July 2021 as Corporation Finance Counsel to Chair Gary Gensler. In the Policy Director role, Klemmer oversaw work across market structure, resiliency, and investor protection, including a unanimously approved equity market reform described by the Chair as the most significant in nearly 20 years. Her prior work at the SEC included building consensus for and implementing insider trading and corporate governance reforms, advising on rules affecting activist investor transparency, securitization conflicts, and special purpose acquisition companies, and supporting the finalization of rules implementing the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act.
