Dominican Republic's Pensions Superintendency (SIPEN) participated in ceremonies for National Social Security Day and the 24th anniversary of Law 87-01, which created the Dominican Social Security System, reiterating its institutional focus on strengthening the system and promoting pension awareness centred on workers’ welfare. The commemoration included a flag-raising at the Social Security Tower and a thanksgiving mass at the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor. The events were led by National Social Security Council (CNSS) General Manager Edward Guzmán and SIPEN Executive Director Joan Carlo Henríquez Solís, representing Superintendent Francisco A. Torres. Guzmán called for continued evolution of the system and further refinement of the rights guaranteed under the social security framework, which governs reciprocal rights and duties between the state and citizens for financing protection against risks including old age, disability, survivors, illness, maternity, childhood and occupational hazards; representatives from the Directorate General for Information and Defense of Affiliates (DIDA), the Social Security Treasury (TSS), the Superintendency of Health and Occupational Risks (SISALRIL) and the Ministry of Labour were among those in attendance.
