The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan published a consumer warning about an increase in fraud carried out through online promotions and messaging apps, urging citizens to remain vigilant and protect their banking information. The alert notes that scammers are particularly active on Telegram and WhatsApp and may call while posing as staff of commercial organisations, promising help with loans or “easy income”, or claiming a bank card is expiring or that an attempted theft is underway. Fraudsters may request card details, passwords or “keywords”, CVV codes, or send suspicious files via messengers. The central bank stresses that banks and other credit financial organisations do not offer funds via Facebook, Telegram, Instagram or other social networks, and that it does not issue certificates or licences to individuals to conduct such operations; citizens are advised not to trust fake adverts and to avoid transferring money to cards provided by such persons.
