The National Bank of Serbia published its Cash Operations Division report on detected counterfeits for January–September 2025, covering counterfeit dinar and effective foreign currency banknotes identified through expert examination. The report records 3,750 counterfeit banknotes in total, with euro counterfeits representing the largest share by number of pieces. Of the total, 1,337 counterfeit dinar banknotes were detected, dominated by the RSD 2,000 denomination (79.66% of pieces), followed by RSD 500 (7.93%) and RSD 1,000 (7.70%). Relative to cash in circulation, this equated to 1.98 counterfeit dinar banknotes per million genuine banknotes, or RSD 4,593.49 of counterfeit money per RSD 1 billion in circulation. For foreign currency, 2,413 counterfeit banknotes were detected, comprising 2,019 counterfeit euro notes (mainly EUR 100 and EUR 200) and 394 counterfeit U.S. dollars (356 in USD 100 and 38 in USD 50), with no counterfeit banknotes of other currencies registered. Expressed in dinars, the nominal value equivalent of counterfeits across all currencies was RSD 42,740,557.94, of which euro counterfeits accounted for RSD 36,430,931.69 (85.24%), U.S. dollar counterfeits for RSD 3,747,806.25 (8.77%) and dinar counterfeits for RSD 2,561,820.00 (5.99%); separately, 36 counterfeit EUR 2 coins were identified among 400 examined euro coins.
