The Hong Kong Insurance Authority (IA) issued a public warning about bogus payment requests falsely claiming to be from the IA, after receiving an enquiry about a suspicious invoice titled “Insurance Authority Certificate” that requested payment. The IA said the invoice contained fabricated IA details and a fake stamp, and reiterated that it never issues invoices for anything called an “Insurance Authority Certificate” and does not issue insurance policies as the purported “certificate” suggested. The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force, and the IA directed the public to verify any suspicious requests via its general enquiry hotline and to report suspected scams to the police. Similar alerts were issued in April and August 2024.
