The Central Bank of Chile released preliminary regional national accounts for the third quarter of 2025, showing economic activity increased in 11 of the country’s 16 regions and household consumption rose in 15 regions, consistent with national growth of 1.6% in activity and 2.9% in household consumption. The Metropolitan Region provided the largest contribution to GDP growth, with additional support from the Center and South macrozones, while the Center-South macrozone recorded the largest negative incidence on GDP. Trade, personal services and business services drove national activity growth and contributed positively across most regions, while weaker mining production weighed on the national result and most mining regions. Household consumption growth reflected contributions from all components, led by higher services spending, particularly personal services, restaurants and hotels, and transport, alongside increases in non-durable goods (including food and beverages, clothing and footwear) and durable goods driven by technology products. Regional GDP outcomes ranged from strong growth in Atacama (11.5%) and Aysén (8.2%) to contractions in Tarapacá (-8.0%) and Biobío (-4.2%), while Los Ríos was the only region reporting a decline in household consumption (-0.5%). The release also introduced revised estimates for regional GDP and household consumption for the first and second quarters of 2025, reflecting updated basic regional indicators and revisions to the Quarterly National Accounts (CNT). Key inputs behind the revisions included updated industrial production indicators from the National Statistics Institute (INE) for mining, utilities and manufacturing, updated monthly tax information, wage payment records (AFC), updated data from the Undersecretariat for Fisheries (SUBPESCA), and exports used to calculate the agriculture and forestry sector; household consumption revisions were mainly driven by updated monthly tax information and CNT consumption aggregate revisions.
