The Central Bank of West African States has approved the business application programming interfaces of listed participants for integrated payment services through the West African Economic and Monetary Union’s Interoperable Platform for the Instant Payment System (PI-SPI). The approval confirms that the APIs meet the central bank’s functional, technical, performance and security requirements, extending PI-SPI’s business-facing capabilities as the regional instant payments rollout continues. The approved APIs allow businesses to send and receive payments, submit bulk payment requests, automate payment operations securely and monitor transactions in real time. Services are available across the union regardless of the payer’s and beneficiary’s payment service providers, while technology suppliers can use the APIs to develop customized digital services. The central bank will update the approved list as additional participants complete the certification process.
