The Central Bank of West African States reported that Côte d’Ivoire’s Treasury has met the requirements of the West African Economic and Monetary Union’s Interoperable Platform of the Instant Payment System (PI-SPI) and is regularly using it for bulk payments. The development extends the regional platform’s use to government transactions as part of the digitalization of public payments. PI-SPI enables treasuries to send and receive payments including salaries, scholarships, subsidies, taxes and other levies regardless of the beneficiary’s or taxpayer’s account, with real-time transaction monitoring. The central bank is assisting other public treasuries across the union with their gradual integration into the platform.
