The National Bank of Georgia reported further progress in diversifying its international reserves through China’s capital market. Governor Natia Turnava and Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili discussed the gradual increase of the yuan’s share in Georgia’s reserves and the central bank’s active investment in yuan denominated assets with People’s Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Thailand. The talks also covered deeper central bank cooperation and opportunities to develop financial markets, continuing work under a March 2025 memorandum of understanding. That framework covers monetary policy, financial technology, payment systems and securities markets, with international payment infrastructure identified as a priority for strengthening financial links and improving transaction efficiency between Georgia and China.
