The Bank of Albania, together with the European Investment Bank, held a workshop on the principles, governance and EU interoperability of an Albanian National Green Taxonomy under the Technical Assistance Programme for Greening Financial Systems. The event framed the taxonomy as a classification system for identifying environmentally sustainable investments and as part of Albania’s financial services integration obligations under Chapter 9. Discussions covered the taxonomy’s governance structure, development principles, criteria for selecting sectors and how to incorporate climate adaptation elements, with participants highlighting the need for coordinated work across public authorities, the banking sector, civil society and international partners. The European Investment Bank’s representative also pointed to the Bank of Albania’s wider green finance work, including its Green Strategy, guidance for banks on managing climate risks, development of a transition risk stress test and the establishment of a banking sector ESG Committee.
