The Bank of Albania, working with the European Investment Bank, held a technical and inter-institutional workshop to present the first draft of Albania’s Green Taxonomy and gather feedback to support its finalisation and implementation. The draft taxonomy is positioned as a framework to improve market transparency, channel finance towards sustainable economic activities and support long-term financial stability, with an emphasis on alignment with European Union standards. The consultation was organised in two roundtables, one with relevant ministries, the Bank of Albania working group and the Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority, and a second with banks, regulated professions, large corporations, environmental organisations and chambers of commerce. Discussions covered taxonomy concepts, technical screening criteria for classifying economic activities, and how these should be adapted to the Albanian context. After the consultation process concludes, the document is expected to be finalised and inter-institutional cooperation formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding to underpin effective implementation.
