In remarks at an environmental, social and governance conference in Tirana, Bank of Albania Second Deputy Governor Natasha Ahmetaj outlined how businesses and banks must adapt to climate risks and European regulatory requirements as Albania advances toward European integration. She emphasized that banks, as the economy’s main source of financing, must strengthen risk management and reporting while directing capital toward projects that support sustainable development. Ahmetaj also reviewed the Bank of Albania’s ongoing work with the European Investment Bank to develop an Albanian Green Taxonomy based on European standards. She stressed that reliable, transparent data and clear classification of economic activities are needed to guide green investment, while a common framework for communication between banks and businesses would help turn information, reporting and risk assessment requirements into financing opportunities.
