The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has released the next service schedule for the two Coin Carts under its Coin Collection Programme, covering 17 August 2026 to 25 October 2026. The programme provides a free public service that collects coins across Hong Kong’s 18 districts on a rotating basis and recirculates the collected coins to meet demand. Since the programme started in October 2014, the two Coin Carts had completed 1,509,000 transactions and collected 1,142 million coins with a total face value of HKD 1,853 million as of 30 June 2026. Each cart normally stays at one location for a week, subject to parking availability and maintenance. Service hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Each vehicle has two coin counting machines, on-site staff support and an electrical wheelchair lift. Users can exchange coins for banknotes or add value to stored value facilities including Octopus Cards and selected e-wallets. The authority said it will continue to review the programme and update the service schedule regularly to provide advance notice to the public.
