National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu met National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia Governor Trajko Slaveski to discuss bilateral cooperation, recent macroeconomic developments and the Moldovan central bank’s role in supporting EU accession. Dragu described the financial sector as resilient and risks as controlled, while cautioning that the economic outlook remains sensitive to external shocks and requires close monitoring. The discussion covered Moldova’s continuing alignment of national legislation with the EU acquis and the central bank’s effort to secure European Banking Authority recognition that its banking prudential framework is equivalent to the EU framework. Nearly a year after Moldova joined the Single Euro Payments Area, SEPA accounts for more than 81% of cross-border euro transaction volume and about 47% of transaction value. Dragu also highlighted the MIA Instant Payments system as Moldova’s modern infrastructure for domestic payments in Moldovan lei.
