The Central Bank of Afghanistan called on commercial banks to coordinate implementation of the recently approved electronic payments strategy, supporting a gradual shift from cash to electronic and digital transactions. Banks are required to strengthen their systems, expand services and use innovative digital solutions to broaden financial inclusion and public access to safe and efficient electronic payments. The central bank also urged banks to reduce banking-sector investments abroad and direct more funding toward public-benefit projects within Afghanistan. It called for simpler banking procedures to improve customer convenience.
