The National Bank of Moldova reviewed Moldova’s financial reform progress and implementation priorities at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok. First Deputy Governor Petru Rotaru presented progress in digitalizing financial infrastructure, strengthening the banking system and expanding financial inclusion. Discussions with international financial institutions addressed implementation of the 2025 Financial Sector Assessment Program recommendations, financial sector resilience and central bank independence. The meetings also covered the central bank’s role in European Union integration and the reform agenda under Moldova’s 2025-2027 Growth Plan, continuing earlier discussions on aligning financial regulation with EU requirements. Rotaru reiterated the role of IMF cooperation in supporting Moldova’s EU accession objectives and discussed the Policy Coordination Instrument. The proposed three-year arrangement, which has no financing component, reached agreement at staff level in May 2026. The update reports on the meetings without announcing approval of that arrangement or new regulatory measures.
