The General Secretariat of the United Arab Emirates National Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financing of Terrorism and Financing of Illegal Organisations Committee convened a retreat to review implementation of the UAE’s 2024–2027 anti-money laundering, combating the financing of terrorism and counter-proliferation financing strategy. More than 50 federal and local officials assessed progress and challenges and began identifying priorities for the next strategy cycle. Participants agreed to accelerate the National Action Plan through shorter strategy cycles, stronger interagency coordination and enhanced data sharing. Follow-up actions include reviewing Financial Action Task Force submissions, aligning implementation with the National Risk Assessment and using simulation exercises to test resilience. The retreat also mapped foundational pillars for the next strategy, drawing on discussions of emerging risks including proliferation finance, ransomware, tax crime, cybersecurity, virtual assets, blockchain and gaming.
